National Trans Am to feature strong 19 car field in Sydney

A large rookie contingent, including Garry Rogers Motorsport pair Jason Bargwanna and James Moffat, headline a 19-strong entry for Round 5 of the National Trans Am Series at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend. Moffat will make his long awaited debut in the category in a Ford Mustang painted in the same colours as father Allan’s iconic 1969 Coca Cola example he used to take 101 wins from 151 races. This weekend also marks the maiden appearance of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series race winner Bargwanna, who will also race a Ford Mustang with support from Chicane Tools and Burson Auto Parts, highlighting the new partnership between the two. Joining the GRM pair for a first outing in National Trans Am will be 76-year-old veteran speedway competitor Barry Kelleher and local driver Chris Sutton, who revealed his stunning MotoFit321 Ford Mustang earlier this year. Dream Racing Australia’s Nathan Herne won’t have title combatant Aaron Seton to contend with after it was confirmed he will miss the final two rounds, but new contenders will keep him honest. Tim Brook is on home ground and is aiming to secure second in the series from young gun Edan Thornburrow. This round also signals the maiden appearance for two new cars, Ben Grice in a Ford Mustang and a Chevrolet Camaro for Zach Loscialpo. National Trans Am Series action begins with two practice sessions and qualifying on Friday before two races on Saturday, while Sunday hosts the finale.
