Stacked 29 car Trans Am field set for Queensland Raceway

A stacked field of Turtle Wax Trans Am cars will line-up for the penultimate round of the series at Queensland Raceway this weekend. A total of 29 of the V8-powered machines have entered and, if all cars take to the start, it will beat the record for the most starters in a Trans Am round (28, Sydney Motorsport Park, May 2021). Garry Rogers Motorsport Turtle Wax Trans Am Series leaders Owen Kelly and Nathan Herne are split by just six-points at the top of the standings heading to Queensland Raceway, but the addition of Boost Mobile Racing’s Brodie Kostecki to the grid provides an extra challenge. Kostecki will drive Tim Shaw’s Chevrolet Camaro in a cameo appearance supported by Boost Mobile. Fellow newcomers include former Super2 racer Jack Sipp and Tom Hayman, a winner in Aussie Racing Cars, which further adds to a quality grid for Round 5 of this year’s title. Aside from Kelly and Herne at the top of the standings, Wall Racing driver Tim Brook continues to be a regular bugbear for the GRM duo as he remains 17-points off the lead. Not to be discounted, Chevrolet Camaro driver Brett Holdsworth has impressed in his first full-season campaign for Ashley Seward Motorsport to be fourth and still within striking distance driving the TPS Group/Breeze Holiday Park entry. Dream Racing Australia contender Kyle Gurton endured a disappointing round at Sydney and will aim to bounce back following a recent test. Add in talented young guns Edan Thornburrow, Lochie Dalton, Cody Burcher and Nic Carroll, it’s hard to pick a winner from the 29 entries. Luck has alluded Nash Morris this season, but the Supercheap Auto-backed driver is sure to impress on home turf as his is backed by a strong Queensland contingent led by Jett Johnson, John Harris and returnee James Simpson. Experienced hands Jon McCorkindale, Ben Grice and Elliot Barbour further bolster an impressive field for Round 5 of the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series. The SpeedSeries at Queensland Raceway will feature seven racing categories and 12 hours of live and ad-break free coverage on Stan Sport across Saturday and Sunday.
