Turtle Wax Trans Am Series ready to rumble at the Mountain

Round 3 of the Turtle Wax Trans Am Series at Bathurst arrives at an interesting point in the title fight after Nathan Herne moved into the lead at Phillip Island, albeit Tim Brook is just seven-points behind approaching the Mountain.

However, the leading pair will need to contend with 23 rivals at Bathurst in what is quickly establishing itself as Australia’s fastest growing category.

Garry Rogers Motorsport’s Owen Kelly hit form at Phillip Island after a disappointing home round at Symmons Plains, while fellow Tasmanian and teammate Lochie Dalton sits an impressive fifth in the standings.

Regular contenders Kyle Gurton, Brett Holdsworth, Edan Thornburrow and Hugh McAlister will also mount a serious challenge this weekend.

So too local driver Cody Burcher, who scored his maiden Turtle Wax Trans Am Series podium at Phillip Island and enters his ‘home round’ confident of a strong result.

Fellow category rookie Dalton Ellery will complete double duty in the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour as he cements his position inside the top 10, just as Dial Before You Dig’s Jon McCorkindale hopes to do.

The All American Driveline and Auto Parts Ford Mustang of Ben Grice has been one of the fastest entries this season, though unfulfilled so far. Grice was quick at Bathurst last year and alongside Dodge Challenge teammate Nic Carroll will be a duo to watch at the Mountain.

Another to not experience a trouble-free start to the season is Supercheap Auto Ford Mustang driver Nash Morris, but he is another targeting a return of luck and form at Bathurst.

Making his return for Dream Racing Australia after missing Phillip Island is Pioneer DJ-supported Elliot Barbour, who impressed on debut at Symmons Plains and adds to the depth in the field.

Making his debut this weekend is son of former Development Series racer Michael and fourth generation racer James Simpson in the Seven82Motors Dodge Challenger.

Action for the third round of Turtle Wax Trans Am at Bathurst begins with opening practice at 8:15am.
