2026 Trans Am Cup Series Title to be Decided at Sandown Motor Raceway
A pair of two time Trans Am Cup Series Champions in Nathan Herne and Todd Hazelwood will attempt to become the first three time Champion when both drivers compete at this week’s Penrite Oil Sandown 500 for the 2026 Trans Am Cup Series title.
Herne currently sits in the cat bird seat after extending his championship lead to 76 points following a dominant Round at Sandown Raceway last weekend, while defending Champion Todd Hazelwood endured a challenging event after contact on Lap 1 of Race 3 damaged an upper right shock mount.
Blake Tracey and James Moffat, third and fourth currently, are only separated by ten points, however with Supercars Super Licence points on the line, Tracey will be gunning for second outright (24 points adrift of Hazelwood) which will give him enough to look for a Co Driver spot in next years Supercars enduro.
Trans Am’s season finale will feature 21 entries, with the returns of Elliot Barbour, Clay Richards and Ben Grice boosting an already stacked grid.
888 Race Engineering Young gun Ollie Wickham will make his Trans Am debut this weekend with Maverick Performance in the Shaw and Partners livery made famous by Will Brown’s 2021 Supercars win with Erebus Motorsport, and says he’s looking forward to stepping up from Formula Ford and the Toyota 86 Series to something completely different.
The final round of the series will also see former Super 2 and Stadium Super Trucks racer Shae Davies make his debut with Maverick Performance in the #2 Davbridge Constructions Ford Mustang.
IMSA driver Harrison Goodman has returned from the US and will swap his GT4 car for the 525hp Mustang that sat on the pole last weekend in the hands of Ayrton Hodson who returns to Super 2 duties, while Dwayne West, a local Victorian will make his debut in the series.
TFH Racing’s Des Collier heads into the finale leading the Pro Am Class by 114 points, after Tyler Cheney endured another difficult round at Sandown last weekend.
Track action kicks off on Friday with a practice session in the morning, followed by qualifying at 11:00am. Saturday features one race at 8:25am, before the weekend wraps up on Sunday with two races at 8:25am and 12:20pm.
Round 7 of the Trans Am Cup Series takes place November 6-8 at Sandown International Raceway as part of the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 event. Watch all the action live on Fox and Kayo Sports.
