Golding joins Maverick for Bathurst Trans Am Assault

31 March 2026

Melbourne based Trans Am squad Maverick Performance will kick off their 2026 campaign with star BRT Supercars driver James Golding to join Adam Garwood in a two car team assault at the first round of the series at Mount Panorama Bathurst this weekend 3- 5th of April.

While being no stranger to the Trans Am Cup Series, the 2025 Bathurst pole sitter said it will be slightly weird not forming up with his former team but is looking forward to the challenge with Maverick Performance.

“Joining a new team brings a fresh set of challenges, but I’m excited for the new opportunity as Bathurst was a strong round for me last year in Trans Am, so naturally the expectations are high heading into this weekend”, said Golding.

“With just one round in the series this year for me, the focus is on making the most of it and after a solid test with Maverick at Winton last week I’m really looking forward to putting together a really strong performance against a mix of familiar competitors and some new faces.”

Maverick Performance is headed up by ex racer Gerard McLeod who is excited to have James join the team alongside regular front runner Adam Garwood bolstering the teams driver line up for its second season.

“Adam finished off the 2025 season with a podium result, and having Golding alongside him at Bathurst will only add to his confidence and results at the mountain this weekend' said McLeod

“Jimmy is a top shelf pick and one of the fastest drivers in Trans Am history so when he came available for Bathurst we had to have him apart of Maverick. We’ve locked in array of very experienced drivers for the rest of the season which we’ll announce soon and all I can say is they are familiar names in the Supercars paddock.” said McLeod

"Our goals at Maverick are always to win. That's what we strive for and that's why we compete. We had a good first season last year and expanding to a two car template was a natural progression. We are 100% ready to fight at the very front of the Trans Am field" said McLeod

Maverick has also received corporate backing from Cooldrive and Racer Industries for the season to support its championship year.

"Having such reputable brands supporting the team like Cooldrive and Racer Industries is a huge coup for the team and gives us stability moving into our second season" said McLeod

The Trans Am Cup Series kicks off at Bathurst on Friday with one 30 minute practice session and qualifying session,  followed by three 30 minute races across the weekend and will feature the most talent packed field seen in the series history.
